Australians are feeling climate impacts right now - every week we hear about raging bushfires, devastating floods and dying rivers. There are solutions to our climate crisis, but our politicians are blocking progress on climate, and a re-energised fossil fuel sector is hungering for public funds to support industries that are too expensive compared to clean energy and storage.
This is something we can do something about!
We would love you to connect with us, and stay updated as we ramp up local climate action.
We have formed four working groups - please consider supporting our members as they work for a clean energy transition, protect Australia from the horrendous 29 billion tons of carbon in the Galilee Basin, lay groundwork for a local climate emergency declaration and work towards supporting local government climate candidates.
- Local emission reduction and preparation to elect climate Councillors. Local government is a powerful place for reducing emissions - increasing electric vehicles, public transport and clean energy uptake, and improving our dwellings and parks. Please visit our Local Power page to find out more about the campaign to elect responsible, climate focussed representatives.
Laying the groundwork for local Climate Emergency declarations.
Darebin declared a Climate Emergency over two years ago, now there are over 600 jurisdictions worldwide, including the ACT and 3 countries. Find up more on our Climate Emergency page.
- Join our powerful StopAdani Kooyong team as we ramp up our efforts to protect our water, precious heritage including the sacred Doongmabulla Springs, and our children from a planet busting amount of Galilee carbon. Find out more on our StopAdani page.
- Energy Transition. Right now new renewables and storage is cheaper in Australia than running old coal plants. It's time to support a clean energy transition and clean energy jobs. Consider signing up to our Energy Transitions team on our Volunteer page - projects including speaker training, industry liaison, forums, fact sheets and submissions.
Our website will feature campaign events from the local groups belonging to the Kooyong Climate Change Alliance (Stop Adani Kooyong, Lighter Footprints, ACF Boroondara and the GetUp Higgins & Kooyong Action Group) and showcase media articles and campaign milestones.
We will let you know about opportunities to get involved.
